Wendy Oliver-Pyatt, M.D. completed her psychiatry training
at New York University, where she was the Chief Resident of the Bellevue
Hospital Outpatient Service. She has held faculty positions at NYU,
Albert Einstein School of Medicine, and she is currently an Assistant
Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Nevada School of Medicine.
She is a member of the American Psychiatric Association, the American
Academy of Addiction Psychiatry, and the Academy for Eating Disorders.
Dr. Oliver-Pyatt has taught courses on the subject of food and body
preoccupation to medical students, psychiatry residents, social workers,
and other health care providers, and she has been actively involved
in medical student education in psychiatry. She has been interviewed
on television and radio, and by numerous publications such as Fitness,
and Child. Features from her book will also be included in
upcoming issues of Family Circle, Marie Claire, and
Women's Health and Fitness.
She is a practicing psychiatrist in Santa Barbara, California, and
Reno, Nevada, and is Board Certified by the American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology in both General and Addiction Psychiatry. She also served
as the Medical Director for the State of Nevada, Division of Mental
Health and Disability Services and has a particular interest also
in the treatment of the severely mentally ill. In addition to other
awards, she has been recognized as a "Champion" in the fight to decriminalize
the severely mentally ill by the Human Potential Institute and she
recently received Senatorial Recognition for her commitment to the
Mental Health Community from United States Senator John Ensign.
She is married and is the mother of two daughters, Mikaela and Jada.
